REQUIREMENTS

Perfect thanks, i think that this feature will be really important and cool, as this makes it possible or poeple to just use there current next js project and host it on Codesmash. This would make it really easy to use something like ShipFast or whatever template people use and host it here 🙂
This makes something like vercel almost completely useless

This roadmap is new, so I haven’t picked anything from it yet! I’m currently just trying to get the GitHub issue done, because that’s a blocker for new users. After that I’ll deliver what’s most upvoted.

Haha, yes, everyone loves Shipfast from Marc! ;)
I’ll make sure this gets done, actually my Next.js video is by far the most watched YouTube video. I’m well aware that there is a need for this.
EDIT: Just to be clear, you can host Shipfast even now, but you have to compile it as client-side version.

I was able to deploy SSR Next.js app to AWS Lambda just now. You can try it out at the link below. This will enable us to deploy Next.js apps, just as you would to Vercel. Also, we can enable deploying ShipFast, directly from its original GitHub repository as well.

Quick update guys. Our new dev Sarah is now working on this feature. She was able to deploy Next.js to AWS and also add the App Router as well. There are a few things se needs to fix but once that’s done, we are moving to the integration part. What’s left to do:
Fix minor bugs
Add required parameters and connect them to CodeSmash UI
When deploying frontend, select backend where the website will be deployed to
Add CloudFront as an optional CDN distribution
Once all of this is done, we will be releasing this feature so you can all check it out. After that we can add more optional features like API Builder integration. Check back for more updates soon!

Well, I expect Sarah to finish the bug fixing next week mabye. Then its my turn to work on integration part. We might release a bare-bones version in just a couple of weeks, just so you can quickly get started deploying your apps.
Note, I have been on vacation this week, and I’m coming home tomorrow. Got lot’s of stuff to update you guys on, so I’ll just make a new YouTube video on it.

Quick update on the Next.js SSR feature.
This is the most requested feature and I'll deliver this next. Currently, I got nowhere with the simplest solution which I thought we could go for which is https://github.com/sst/open-next
I'm now looking into a native AWS solution called AWS Lambda Web Adapter https://github.com/awslabs/aws-lambda-web-adapter/tree/main/examples/nextjs-zip
If this one works, we will be able to deploy other SSR frameworks, like HTMX, not just Next.js Also, this thing seems to support Next.js 14, so we should be fine there

Guys we recently added CloudFront to the mix. What does this mean for you?
Both API Gateway, which hosts your Next.js app and an S3 bucket which holds your static files will be connected to Cloudfront. This will let you distribute your static files globally with the CloudFront CD for faster access through caching.
You will also have a single CloudFront URL with which you will be able to access the website and its static files. Note, we will also add a system to keep your AWS Lambda warm for faster 1st time response. AWS Lambda is the mechanism which is generating your Next.js app’s HTML on each visit.
